SUMMARY:Sensory Friendly Day
DESCRIPTION:Sensory Friendly Days give visitors of all ages with complex developmental disabilities\, sensory sensitivities\, or on the autism spectrum a safe\, comfortable environment to explore the museum exhibits during special hours before the museum opens to the general public. Where possible\, our lights will be dimmed and the sound turned off. Signage will be posted for those areas in which we are unable to turn off the sound or there may be other sensory triggers. Trained staff will be available to help visitors navigate the museum and offer supportive resources (noise-canceling headphones\, fidgets\, weighted blankets\, quiet spaces)\, as well as opportunities for sensory engagement during your exploration of the museum.

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 17  |  12:00pm – 1:00pm  |  Performer: Mary Kababik \n*Rescheduled from Friday\, March 10 due to weather* \nAfter Wisconsin governor Louis Harvey’s untimely death\, his wife Cordelia was appointed Wisconsin’s representative to the Western Sanitary Commission. She traveled up and down the Mississippi River visiting Union hospitals and helping thousands of soldiers from Wisconsin and other Northern states. During the performance\, Harvey explains her travels and a dramatic meeting with a skeptical President Lincoln. \nOur previously scheduled program\, “Elizabeth Keckley\, Mary Todd Lincoln’s Dressmaker” is canceled per the presenter Kathryn Harris.

Tai Chi is a slow-moving mind and body exercise\, patterned after movements in nature. This class will cover some of the fundamental principles and exercises of Tai Chi\, focusing on balance\, breathing\, and movement\, while relaxing the body and mind. No experience is necessary\, wear comfortable clothing for low-impact exercise.
