SUMMARY:The Pullman National Park Story
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 20  |  1pm – 2pm  |  Presented by: Park Ranger Hank Bell  |  Free\, registration required  |  Register Here \nJoin Park Ranger Hank Bell for a presentation on Pullman National Historical Park – the first National Park Service site designated in the Chicagoland area. \nThe park tells the story of the Pullman Company and its pivotal role in revolutionizing rail travel in the 19th century. It also preserves one of the first planned industrial communities in the United States\, offering insight into early urban planning and design. Pullman holds a unique place in American labor history\, serving as the backdrop for the historic Pullman Strike and Boycott of 1894. The park also honors the legacy of the Pullman Porters\, an almost exclusively African American workforce whose efforts helped lay the foundation for the Black middle class in America. \nRanger Bell joined the team at Pullman National Historical Park in August 2024. Before beginning his career with the National Park Service\, he spent over twelve years working as an attorney and compliance officer in downtown Chicago.
