Acrylic Painting: Color Theory

For all skill levels. Using acrylic paint, students will create a color wheel and grayscale as a basis for completing a series of small painted exercises exploring topis such as extension of a color, complementary colors, and color triads.

 

 

 

 

Intro to Pine Needles

Coil pine needles onto a ceramic base, and stitch with waxed linen. A variety of colors and tray designs are available, and the project can be embellished with beads.

 

 

 

 

Intro to Flamenco Dancing

Learn some basic moves of the Flemenco and the culture of Spain. A native of Spain, Maribel Morales has been dancing Flamenco since she was a child.  All ages welcome!

 

 

 

 

Japanese Shibori Dyeing

Shibori dyeing is a thousand year old process from Japan that is the combination of origami and tie-dye. Learn different folding and indigo dyeing techniques to create stunning pieces. Students will be provided four squares of fabric to practice the techniques and can bring one garment (shirt, scarf, pillowcase, etc that is 100% cotton) to dye as well.

 

 

 

Beginning Conversational Sign Language

This intro class is designed to help students become familiar with grammatical features, vocabulary, history and culture of American Sign Language. In addition to in-person instruction, students will receive access to all class videos and materials during and after the 6 week course.

 

 

 

 

Candy Corn Wall or Door Basket

Woven in candy corn colors and decorated with a fall bow, this basket is 8″ wide by 8″ tall not including the handle, and can be hung on the front door or wall.

Intro to Ikebana – Japanese Floral Design

Japanese floral design (Ikebana), an art form practiced since the 7th Century, has thousands of methods and arrangements. The purpose behind the design is to appreciate the beauty that is often ignored: simplified shapes and lines, the full stages of life, seasonality, and the connection of all living things.

 

 

 

 

DIY Pom Pom Creations: Wall Hanging or Mobile

Acrylic Painting: Rembrandt Revisited

For all skill levels. Work from still-life to create acrylic paintings using this old method which employs the application of successive layers of thin color glazes to create a rich and luminous surface.

 

 

 

 

Air Dry Clay House

Bring a photo of your home as inspiration for these adorable clay houses. In the first session students will learn how to create depth and textures in these bias relief clay pieces. The second session of the class will focus on painting the houses to bring them to life.

 

 

 

 

Fused Glass: Candle Holder or Nightlights

Create either a four-sided candle holder or two nightlights. Pick your glass colors and learn to fuse the pieces together to make a gorgeous piece of art that will light up your home.

 

 

 

 

Shallow Keepsake Basket

This oval wood base measures 4″x6″ and is woven with natural and a choice of dyed reed, then finished with waxed linen. The basket is 8″x6″x2.5″ tall.

Payment and Refunds

Payment in full is due at the time of registration.  Cancellations made at least two weeks prior to the start of the workshop or class will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within two weeks of start date will not receive a refund.  A full refund will be issued if the museum cancels a workshop or class.
