The Civil War Museum : I Had My Likeness Taken: Cartes—de—visite of the Civil War

Presented is a sampling of the cartes-de-visite (CDV) collection of the Civil War Museum of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Carte-de-visite were small, albumen photographs mounted to 2.5" x 4" card stock. Because they were inexpensive and durable, many Civil War soldiers had their images made on a CDV so it could be sent home to friends and family as a keepsake. Today, these photographs present a wonderful visual record of the time period.
