Acrylic International Biennial Juried Exhibition 2024
The Kenosha Public Museum presented the Acrylic International 2nd Biennial Juried Exhibition, featuring contemporary acrylic works by artists from around the world. The exhibition showcased a wide range of styles and techniques, highlighting the versatility and expressive potential of the acrylic medium. Together, the selected works reflected the creativity, skill, and diverse perspectives of artists working in acrylic at the time of the exhibition. Juried selections were made by artist Reginald Baylor.
Reginald Baylor’s work merges past and future, creating a visual dialogue that is both nostalgic and visionary. His distinctive use of color and form gives rise to timeless images that linger in the mind. Explore iconic symbols, enigmatic figures, and dreamlike landscapes that intersect mid-century nostalgia and contemporary pop culture.
Born in 1966, Baylor’s artistic journey began at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he majored in sculpture. After honing his skills in Southern California’s art scene, he returned to the Midwest and established his painting studio in Milwaukee full time.
Reginald Baylor’s work is deeply rooted in narrative, employing symbols and composition to tell stories of the American experience. His paintings bridge historical context and future aspirations, inviting viewers to engage with a rich array of meaning. While some viewers may immediately grasp the underlying narrative, others will need to pay close attention to fully appreciate the depth and complexity of his work.
His work is in permanent collections in prestigious institutions such as the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Museum of Wisconsin Art, and many private and public collections. Baylor’s art continues to captivate audiences worldwide, inviting viewers to delve into a world of curiosity and ingenuity.
