JEROME (about 12): Don’t worry, Henry. Two more days and we will be at mother’s house. She’ll be waiting on the dock.
HENRY (about 8): Oh, Jerome, what if Aunt Mary’s letter never reached her?
JEROME: Well, we’ll just wait. She’ll be there, sure.
HENRY: Why did we have to go live with Aunt Mary in New York anyway? We could have stayed at home.
JEROME: You know mother couldn’t take care of us after Papa was killed soldierin’. You know that. She had to go live with grandmother and we had to go to Aunt Mary. Just the same as our sisters went to Aunt Cordelia. We all needed looking after.
HENRY: Well, I am never going to leave mother again. You hear me? Never again, Jerome.
