Hello. I just had to get out on deck and get some air.

I’m sorry if I seem out of sorts. I have been taking care of the wounded back there for two days without much help. We have so few nurses. The poor boys. They will be happy to get home even if they are wounded or sick.

Isn’t the news sad about President Lincoln?

I was in Washington when I heard it. My patients were angry and many vowed punishment on the South. I feel the South has already suffered enough. They laid on themselves heavy guilt for many years, not only on account of the slavery, but also on the inhuman abuses associated with it, and the great wealth and godlessness that results from it.
